“Heard it on the Grapevine” – Vitis Braddon Opens its Doors

by The Editor

Vitis-Lucia

Last night, the evolution of Braddon kicked up another gear this Thursday with a preview of Vitis Eatery in the old Ostratos site. As construction continues unabated along the strip, it was fantastic to see another venue prepare to throw open its doors.

The Final Four at Elk & Pea

by The Editor

elkpea-topTwo weeks ago we dedicated ourselves to the cause of working through Elk & Peas rather fun taco menu.  While it may have taken a couple of sittings, our resolve was unwavering.  Here are the results.

Eight to One it’s Taco Time at Elk & Pea

by The Editor

elkpea-top

Street food. What’s not to love? Wherever one travels across the globe a city can be judged on the merits of its food. With this in mind, Elk & Pea has gone further than most by reinventing its entire menu around Southern American and Mexican Cuisine.

Ole!

Hipsley Lane gets Hipper

by The Editor

hipsley-lane-a-frame-bw

Since opening last September, Hipsley Lane has moved quickly to entrench itself as the go-to retail outlet for vintage fashion. However, not satisfied with a successful first eight months, the doors are briefly closing to improve on the model.

“86 That, Chef?” Dining at Braddon’s Brash, New Kid.

by The Editor

86 Logo

We burst through the doors from the darkness of a chilly Autumn evening and into the warmth and hubbub of a busy restaurant on a Saturday night. The last thing one might have expected was to be grabbed in a headlock and taught a stern lesson before being turned out on the street.

At least, that’s kind of what happened…

Everything Old is New Again – Debacle

by The Editor

Debacle Logo

Debacle is dead!  Long live Debacle!

Like any good dynasty –  such as the Windsors, the Kims or The Phantom – it takes a good death to refresh the family lineage.  It was therefore with some sorrow but a healthy dose of anticipation that on 23 February we bade farewell to Debacle at its old site north on Lonsdale Street.

So, where to next?

Designer Op Shop Braddon – Opening

by The Editor

“There’s a new little shop in Braddon”

We’ve all heard this statement over the past couple of weeks, with the opening of new micro stalls in the Lonsdale St. Traders precinct (what was formerly a tyre shop and fitters).

The gallery-style BOX shop has transitioned to the new venue, and in it’s place is a dainty little boutique filled with pre-loved items.  Designer Op Shop, run by Daniella Morr (who we last recall was vying for Miss World Australia and in a Dress Circle feature) and her family, can be divided into two categories: fashion and glassware.

Double Trouble: lining up at The New Roasters

by Barrister Barista

It’s official: Braddon is a two-horse town – if by horse, you mean cafe.  The opening of The New Roasters on 26 September means stuff for Canberra’s coffee scene.  Could it mean that LSR is now ‘the man’ – a sell-out, a franchise?  Could it mean that we’ll no longer have to wait for our coffee and our crunchy toast?   Could it mean that Lonsdale St is now the hand-clapping, bike-riding, coffee-drinking capital of Canberra?  We predict that coffee-drinking tourists will be asking ‘can you tell me how to get, how to get to Lonsdale Street?’

Hipsley Lane…throwing a fashion lifeline (and a party!)

by The Editor

UPDATED:  Check below for some photos from Hipsley’s Opening Night.

It’s simple, it’s uncomplicated, and it’s all coming together rather quickly.  Braddon’s latest boutique, Hipsley Lane threw its doors open last Friday, well ahead of the official opening this week.  But what is Hipsley Lane, and why should we be excited about this little dress shop?  Well, the answer is pretty simple…

Coming Soon: The Elk and Pea

by The Editor

There’s been talk for a few months, though a Facebook post and recent tweet from @parlourroom it looks as though plans are very much moving forward to add a third venue to the Parlour/Knighty group.  That would a sweet relief to the Canberra martini set, who have struggled over the last 25 months since the unfortunate fire at New Acton.
