Canberrans are proud of our local wines. While only Mount Majura actually produces within the ACT border, we are more than happy to claim everything from Yass through to Lake George, it seems that we still can’t crack it with the best across the nation.

James Halliday – possibly the biggest name in Australian wine – has released his Top 100 Wines for 2015. Guess how many local wines made the cut this year…

Slipper Gate – A Vinsiders Investigation

Recently, there has been some well-publicised controversy surrounding Sunshine Coast MP Peter Slipper. It’s been alleged that Mr Slipper used a Cabcharge to visit a number of wineries within the Canberra region.

With so many competing stories, it’s difficult to establish the facts and make sense of Mr Slipper’s actions. So, while the police, courts and public opinion do their best to ascertain the innocence or guilt of Mr Slipper’s alleged taxpayer-funded jaunt, the Vinsiders decided to undertake their own investigation and follow the trail of the Golden Slipper!

About fifteen years ago, we visited some of the local Canberra wineries. Back then there was a higher than usual proportion of sympathy buys – you know the ones, where all the wines are not particularly good, but you feel that overriding sense of guilt that you should purchase something, so you pick the least offensive bottle at the cheapest possible price, smile, hand over the cash, and run out the door.
