The Artisan Loves Pinot Noir – May Wine Dinner

by The Editor

Artisan-Restaurant-logoLove your food? Love your wine? Perhaps like us you have fallen in love with the versatility of Pinot Noir. Artisan Restaurant certainly has, and all of May are celebrating this most lovely of varietals with a showcase five-course dinner.

We were fortunate enough to join in for last July’s Shiraz dinner, and can testify that David Black and Sam McGeechan provide a fantastic balance of quality and value. So excited are the boys about this month’s event they even posted the following photo on their Twitter account to promote the five wines available with the meal.

Artisan Pinot Noir Range

The lighter style of Pinot Noir will suit perfectly the autumn season.   The bright sunny days with not-too-cool evenings are perfect for a lighter red such as this. Below we have the menu for the month along with the matched Pinot Noir. It’s $105 per person which is an exceptional price for five courses with wine.

Quail. Smoked quail consomme, confit leg and smoked breast with sweet potato fondant and quail egg
2011 Eden Road Tumbarumba Pinto Noir (Tumbarumba, NSW)

Duck. Pressed confit of duck leg with pistachios, pickled leek and blood orange preserve
2011 Yabby Lake Red Claw Pinto Noir (Mornington Peninsula, Vic)

Mushrooms. Exotic mushrooms sauteed with shallots, chives and thyme on Artisan caramelised garlic bread and stilton
2011 Farr Rising Pinot Noir (Geelong, Vic)

Rabbit. Braised rabbit vol-au-vent with black slasify, tarragon, and baby carrot salad
2011 Stefano Lubiana Primavera Pinot Noir (Derwent River, Tas)

Wagon Wheel. Layers of biscuit, marshmallow, raspberry jam and peanut praline with dark chocolate ganache
NV Josef Chromy Ruby Pinot (Relbia Tas)

There you have it – we’re off to try it this Saturday. You can see what we thought via our Twitter account that afternoon.
