FashFest – The Great Reveal

Update: We’ve got some behind the scenes shots from today’s FashFest launch at Zoo Advertising.  Scroll down below to see the latest additions.

Well, we started with a letter, a few black and white photos and a whole lot of speculation. Finally, we can reveal the full scope of FashFest – a new headline event for Canberra that has seemingly come out of nowhere.

And WOW! This is going to be incredible!

What it seems we are looking at is an event that will occur over four nights (Wednesday 1 to Saturday 4 May to be precise) featuring four completely different themes. The designers all have a connection to Canberra – be it current or previous – and the shows promise to set a standard in keeping with the Centenary of Canberra.

Sure, you might be saying, that’s all hyperbole. Well, not quite. To date, the organisers have raised over $200,000 in sponsorship for FashFest, as well as acquiring almost another $100,000 in expertise and support. It all bodes well for a highly professional and coordinated series of fashion events on a scale never seen before in this city.

The scoop for organisers Andrea and Clinton Hutchinson is the return to the catwalk of internationally renowned Australian super model, Anneliese Seubert, as the face of Fashfest. Anneliese has done it all since commencing her international career in 1990 after winning the FORD Supermodel of the World Contest at 17 years of age – including:

  • the Italian, German, British and Australian editions of Vogue
  • international editions of Marie Claire, Elle, Harpers Bazaar and Glamour
  • being a favourite model of designer John Galliano and
  • runway appearances for Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Alexander McQueen, Karl Lagerfeld and Calvin Klein.

It’s a wonderful coup for FashFest to have Anneliese bring her experience, profile and knowledge on a purely voluntary basis. We think this is a fair indication of the faith those involved have in what is being put together for this event, and adds a an extra layer of professionalism on top of that already developed by the organisers.

The FashsFest website (which also has the new TV commercial due to hit our screens in the coming days) features the following quote from Vivienne Westwood:

It is life-enhancing and, like everything that gives pleasure, it is worth doing well.

For us, that sums up the entire effort to date.  Once you’ve checked out the site, you can’t help but agree.

The original Foreshore started as a couple of guys wondering how far they could go in putting on a little festival down by the lake – and just look where that has gone over the last five years! With the level of expertise and momentum already behind the first FashFest, this will only get bigger. We can’t wait until opening night on Wednesday 1 May.

Tickets go on sale 1 March – we’ll let you know where when they do.

Just make sure you can say “I was there.”
