Italian Film Festival at Palace Electric

by The Editor

logo.canberra copyWell, there’s certainly no time for the dust to settle over at Palace Electric.  The grand opening was only ten days ago, and already – in the midst of Oscar season – the crew at the Nishi cinema are launching a showcase of the best of last year’s Italian Film Festival.  The opening night will be something of a gala event, and we have a couple of 2-for-1 vouchers for the rest of the festival to give away to creative cinephiles among us.

The Festival toured nationally late in 2012.  Although a little behind other capital cities, with the recent opening of Palace Electric the films shown over the coming weeks will represent the most popular of last year’s programme – so the good news is the hard work of selecting the best films is done for you.  The festival also presents a great opportunity to investigate the smaller cinemas at Palace Electric each of which are designed with their own particular look.  We’re impressed by this attention to detail – especially given viewers spend most of their time in the dark.

Welcome to the North Poster

The programme will launch on Tuesday 5 February with Benvenuti al Nord (Welcome to the North) and, for an hour beforehand, the Prosecco Bar will be in full effect with Brown Brothers Prosecco on arrival, Connoisseur Gourmet Ice Cream, some live music and sweets by Balconi.  Tickets are $50 ($40 for members) and available from the cinema’s website.  There will be other events on Sunday 10th and Closing night on Tuesday 12th February, so there’s ample opportunity to take advantage of a bit of good old Italian family hospitality.

As mentioned, we’ve got a couple of 2-for-1 in-season passes to give away.  Simply tell us in the comments section (or via our Twitter account) in less than 140 characters what it is you truly love about Italy.  Entries close at 10.00pm Wednesday 6 February 2013.

Ciao!
