The races. Apparently it’s not all about drinking champagne until tears spontaneously erupt, nor sculling Jack Daniels & Cola until you puke in your partner’s handbag. No, there’s a much more serious side to events where midgets whip sentient beings – it’s the all-important Fashions on the Field.
While the focus may be on various fillies flaunting their stuff on the catwalk, there’s an opportunity for one Canberra lady to become the spokesperson for all the events through the year. It’s the Myer Face of Canberra Racing and it’s on now!
The 2013 edition , the fifth year for the competition, was launched on Monday 14 January, and has $10,000 in cash and prizes on offer. Here’s and excerpt from Thoroughbred Park’s media release:
Each year prior to the running of the Kamberra Wine Company Black Opal Stakes, the call for entrants to local ladies between the ages of 18-35 to take part in the judging process to find the right “face”. “We are looking for someone with immaculate presentation, someone who is fashion savvy and willing to become Canberra Racing’s ambassador” Sales and Marketing Manager Briony Young said. “An interest in horseracing is beneficial, but not essential, we’d like someone who is the complete package, sophisticated, well spoken and confident” she said.
Preliminary Finals will be held at Siren’s Bar and Restaurant in Gunghalin, and contestants will then parade on Preview Day, Sunday 24 February with the winner to be announced later that day.
Curiously, there were no details in the media release on how to enter, but we found the registration form over at Out In Canberra. So, there you go – if you’ve got an outgoing personality, and love networking and fashion, get involved. Who knows where it will lead you?
