To celebrate the Centenary of Canberra and the launch of the Gallery of Australian Design’s YOUNG.HOT.CANBERRA exhibition, The Canberran is featuring local designers who’s work will be displayed at the GAD from Saturday 12 January until Saturday 23 February 2013.
0.4 Luke Chiswell
Luke Chiswell is a Canberra based designer and artist, using a wide range of mediums from illustration and hand screen printing to fashion design and sculpture. His graphic style often features black and white imagery, using bold, simple lines cleverly set against white space. . His limited edition t-shirts are particularly sought after.
In 2009, Chiswell was selected for the National Youth Self Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery in 2010. Subsequently his work has been exhibited in Canberra and Sydney including as part of the ‘You Are Here’ festival; at the Canberra Contemporary Art Space (CCAS) where he will also show in 2013; and the launch of a new winter line at Honkytonks bar in Garema Place in 2012. Chiswell then spent a period of time living and working in London and New York.
When asked about his opinion on his home town, he says that he loves Canberra because there are ‘good people doing good things here’.

My name is Luke Chiswell. I make things. I try not to limit the medium I work with when executing my creative thoughts.
For me my artwork is a personal outlet … an expression of my creative freedom.
YOUNG.HOT.CANBERRA. is an exhibition showcasing Canberra’s brightest young design stars featuring the work of Dan Armstrong & Nick Robinson, Luke Chiswell, Chris Doyle, Alison Jackson, Megan Jackson, Paul Krix, Cinnamon Lee, Dan Lorrimer & Mitchell Brooks, Tom Skeehan and Supermanoeuvre.
Exhibition runs until 23 February 2013 with Saturday morning artist talks each week at 11am.
