New Year’s Eve 2012-13 – Hippo Bar
by The Editor
Here we go – only days remain until 2013, the year we celebrate the Centenary of Canberra. While we look forward to seemingly a hundred years worth of activities crammed into twelve months, it feels like almost ten years since a balcony at Hippo Bar was first proposed. Now, as a present to the city’s birthday, the best view in Garema Place is ready for action with a special event on New Year’s Eve.
Come Monday evening, Hippo will be ringing in the New Year with a 100/100/100 party. In other words, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Canberra, 100 people will be admitted to Hippo for the price of $100 each. Door open at 8.00pm, with entry including music from Ashley Feraude and Kosta Ellis, as well as drinks and tapas until midnight.
We’ve been up to the balcony for a sneak peak, and can guarantee you it was worth the wait. The whole dynamic of the bar has changed, with the ability to completely open the street-side of the bar to the open air. With large glass plates held together with minimal framing, the view over Garema Place is expansive.
Tickets are available by contacting Hippo Bar here. Get in early to reserve your place, and enjoy an evening of fine tunes, wonderful drinks and the chance to look down upon revelers in the street. Hooray!
