Gallery of Australian Design – The Great GADs Party

by The Editor

Something a little different, but if you fancy yourself a bit of a Kevin McLeod, or love kicking back and discussing the finer points of Brutalism, this could be for you.  On Saturday 3 November 2012 the Gallery of Australian Design (GAD) at Commonwealth Place will be holding its party of the year. The theme, as you may have deducted by now, is The Great Gatsby – so grab your headbands and spats and get on down to Lake Burley Griffin’s Foreshore.

This is the major fundraising event of the year for GAD and includes their Secret Showcase 2012 with generous contributions from leading artists and designers on sale for one night only.  There’ will be music from The Baron & His Pocket Orchestra, spectacular canapés by UrbanFood, drinks fit for a summer soiree, and a very special lucky door prize donated by eminent photographer John Gollings.

Legendary Canberra designer Robert Foster is the special guest speaker for the evening.

A nice little idea is the sale of ‘Secret Postcards’ that are selling for $200 + GST.  Several of the artists who have made a postcard for the night sell their paintings for thousands of dollars. You won’t know who made yours until you buy it (which adds to the fun) but you could very well make a very good art investment on the night. There will also be a design showcase with pieces sold at below retail to give guests a special chance to take home something special.

Tickets are $93.85 and can be purchased here – the booking fee and GST are included in the price.  Food, tunes, elegant drinkies and 1920s fancy dress?  Sounds to us like a wonderful evening down by the lake.
