Friday Night: The Veuve Clicquot Sculpture Bar

by The Editor

Friday night is surely the greatest night of the week.  What’s better than the prospect of no work for another 60 hours, and an unmitigated excuse to drink booze?

Well, the only thing better is the ability to indulge in a tasty beverage al-fresco, surrounded my likeminded people in the most refined of settings.  Say “Hello!” to the National Gallery of Australia’s Veuve Clicquot Sculpture Bar.  Oh, yes….

The Sculpture Bar is lining up for another three weeks of revelry from this Friday.  Join Jordy Kilby (with a record collection that could fill half the Gallery by itself) who’ll be getting the party started from 5pm.

The Champagne on offer is something to behold for a temporary bar.  You can start with a glass of NV Chandon Brut ($10). Work your way up to half bottle of NV Veuve Cliquot Yellow Label Brut ($75) and, when you’re truly in the mood and Jordy’s spinning ‘Hey, Big Spender’, launch yourself into a magnum of 2000 Dom Pérignon Vintage where you’ll get little change from $1,000 (hey, that’s chicken feed when compared to the value of the Rodin sculptures watching on as you ring in another Friday night.)

There’s more to Sculpture Bar.  Coopers beers are on tap (Pale/Sparkling $6/$7) and a broad range of bottled beer and cider (Pipsqueak Best Cider  – $7).  The wines are also a treat (from $9 – $12 a glass) and there is a genuinely good range of cocktails  (negroni – $16) but, unfortunately for us, no martinis.

If you need a snack to balance out the litre of bubbly you’ve targeted, with a little prior organisation an area can be set aside for you and your friends to ensure you have a seat and dine on tasty morsels designed by Executive Chef (and Canberra favourite) James Kidman.

The Sculpture Bar has also announced a little competition:  Here’s their latest Facebook post:
