Alison Jackson Exhibition Launch
by The Editor
You may recall The Canberran has raved about Alison Jackson before. Over the last few years since graduating from the ANU School of Art, Alison has developed her craft to the extent she is now a rising star in the Australian silver-smithing scene. In keeping with this increase in profile, Alison – with the support of Arts ACT – will be exhibiting in Melbourne later this week.
We’ll let Alison speak for herself. Here’s a cut from her Media Release:
Canberra based silversmith Alison Jackson is pleased to announce and invite you to the launch of her new collection at Design:Made:Trade July 19 – 22, Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne.
Having exhibited nationally and internationally over the last four years, this is the first time Alison will be showing her entire collection in Australia.
Combining traditional silversmithing techniques with a contemporary aesthetic, the collection includes a range of one-off and limited edition tableware and jewellery pieces. Her designs are characterised by simplicity, functionality and playful quirky twist.
With an emphasis on the functional, each tableware piece is hand raised from a flat sheet through to the finished form. Her jewellery collection, crafted from stainless steel and sterling silver, is designed to be highly wearable unique pieces of contemporary Australian jewellery.
