The Apple Store?
by The Editor
Update: Well, it’s good to see The Canberran and its commentors forming an uncredited basis for Megan Doherty’s story that made the Technology section of the Sydney Morning Herald’s website this morning.
Where’s the love?
Well, between Nick, Nich0las and a couple of unnamed sources it appears we’ve managed to confirm a Zara outlet for the Canberra Centre.
So, with Apple advertising via their website for retail staff in Canberra, where will a new shiny glass store be located? We think Jono M hit the nail on the head.
This looks like the only remaining retail space in the city with a size suitable to host an Apple Store. The fact staff recruitment is well under way suggests an opening cannot be too far off.
While yet to be confirmed, we’re happy to consider this a pretty good guess.
Nice work, Jono.
UPDATE: The placement of an Apple sign in a shopfront in The Canberra Centre seems a dead giveaway that the store will, in fact, be located on the top floor of that complex (http://m.smh.com.au/technology/technology-news/apple-of-canberras-eye-20120813-2448b.html), which will make lunchtime gadget dashes that much easier!
Still no official word from Apple.

street mag citynews has it at belconen mall, doubt that its rare they break any news
Vielen dank, but I’m sure many an Apple nerd put two and two together on this one. If it is true, an Apple Store on top of places like Honkytonks and Playground will certainly bring some semblance of life to the Garema Place precinct.

Just wandered over from Riot Act post about the Apple Store after posting there the other day. This work Is related to the Department of Regional Australia, Local Government, Arts and Sport moving into the building. Most of the department has moved in but they are still working on some floors as the entire building was getting a makeover. I know someone who works there. An Apple Store has not been mentioned within the department.
People in Canberra are way too narrow-minded to actually go and shop in a store outside a shopping mall. I don’t know what it is with Canberra that people just won’t go shopping outside Shopping Centres. They have panic to venture outside the shopping mall. it’s such a bizarre city. It will have to be in the Canberra Centre. Most likely where the Esprit Store used to be and Zara where Trenery was. Just don’t expect an Apple Store like the one on George Street.
